Hey I'm not sure if there's already a topic on this, but I was too lazy to search through everything. Ass the title suggests, I've been experiencing a pretty dramatic decline in marks ever since I started training for college. My peak performances occurred in junior year of highschool when I was jumping 2.00m pretty handly. During my off season in senior year I started lifting pretty hard to get better, knowing that I was going to jump in college. My senior year was tough, but I was still jumping decently, but about 5cm less. I'm going into my junior year of college, and my first two years of competition have been complete trash, but I've been doing everything my coach tells me to do during practice and training (which entails a lot of olympic lifts and drills). DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO GET BACK TO MY ORIGINAL PERFORMANCE LEVEL?? I'M DESPERATE (but not desperate enough to resort to illegal means)!! Thanks...

You haven't given us much to go on. Can you provide a video?

Hmm almost 2 year old post, not sure if this is still relevant.

You've been lifting... How much weight have you gained since high school? Adding strength is really important but everyone has a strength to weight ratio to be aware of. And by my experience I'm convinced it can make a huge difference in the HJ. I started lifting a lot in college too and added 15-20 pounds (I'm pretty sure it was mostly muscle, but I was a busy college student and not on a strict diet). Even though I felt faster, stronger and more fit than ever before I still I lost about 4 inches (~10 cm) in my year to year PRs. With the help of my coaches I took a look at my lifting and other habits. I committed to eating a little better, all I really did was cut some fatty foods and I chose better snacks, and my coaches helped me transition to lifting more to maintain strength and sharpness much, much earlier in the season I did NOT quit lifting, I also added some extra running/jogging to the end of my jump workouts. Over 3-5 weeks the result was in I lost 10-15 pounds and got back the 4 inches in my jumping and I was consistent at the higher height.

Take a look at the material at www.highjupcoach.com High jumping is a sport of technique - and I don't mean technique in the figure skating or ski jumping sense; you don't get style points or higher marks for being pretty. What I mean is, great technique makes the most of the energy you put into your jump and that makes a huge difference in the height you clear. When you've had a chance to read about the approach and technique in using the approach you will probably have questions. By all means come back and ask.
