We used to use a pole that was an indestructible noodle.

It allowed you to drive your leg through the plant and land sitting feet facing the back of the pit.

We used it to teach the drive section of the vault.

Anyone know where you can get one, or what it is technically called?

Gill Athletics sells Pacer training poles. The smallest is 10-9 70-90 lbs and largest is 13-6 160-180 lbs. They are foam filled and have a slow recoil, but they are not legal for high school competition. I weigh 190 and recently vaulted on a 13-6 140-160 and didn't break it, although it was very mushy.
